Whether it’s the dirt and oil of the hot sun or the dryness of colder weather, our skin needs extra attention if we want to maintain soft and smooth skin. From using products to a simple thing as drinking water, there’s a wide gamut of things we can do to maintain our skin.

Drink More Water

This cannot be emphasized more, as water is essential to keeping hydrated whether in hot or cold weather. The recommended intake is 8 glasses per day but that isn’t the easiest thing to do! Try to keep a bottle of water with you at all times so you can sip it whenever needed – a slow and steady supply of water will do better than a big gulp of a glass every few hours. If you find it hard to drink that much water then try to eat it – look for foods that have lots of water in them.

Start From The Insider

The journey to good skin starts on the inside – with the nutrients you are putting into your body. Incorporate leafy vegetables and colourful fruits into your diet and concentrate on stocking up on vitamin c and e (oranges, strawberries, broccoli for the former and sunflower seeds, pine nuts and almonds for the latter). While cutting junk food out as much as possible is good, natural fats are incredible for skin, such as avocado and fish and nuts.

Use Products Wisely

Invest in a good facewash and make sure your makeup is good for your skin – possibly with sunscreen protection wherever possible so that it does double duty. Don’t overuse them and wash your face too much – you’ll just be stripping your skin of needed oils and will leave it vulnerable to attacks of acne or drying.

Find a good regimen to follow with ingredients you can pilfer from your kitchen cupboard – for example apple cider vinegar diluted in water lightly applied with a cotton swab (be sure to avoid your eyes!) followed by coconut/avocado/argan oil is a good nightly regime to use. Also try out face masks that usually have ingredients such as avocado, honey and yoghurt. Find out what works for you!
